Welcome to Deena's Friends for a Cure! My name is Deena Alansky, and I have been a volunteer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) since 2003. In Feb. 2004 I lost my brother to leukemia, and I fund raise in loving memory of my brother, Rand E. Alansky, who will forever live on in my heart.
In Spring of 2004, my good friend, Don Splitstone, asked me to create a website for the first annual Charity Bar Crawl to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society via Team in Training. I created the website, update it annually, and help with publicity. Now in its 9th year, the Annual "Fill the Mug" Charity Bar Crawl will take place on Sat., May 12, 2012 on Pittsburgh's South Side. Visit the Charity Bar Crawl website to pre-register now and get the Early Bird Discount! And, please "LIKE" us on Facebook! www.facebook.com/charitybarcrawl
Don Splitstone's mother is a leukemia survivor who received a successful bone marrow transplant 11 years ago! She is alive and well today because a total stranger gave her the GIFT OF LIFE! You can be a REAL LIFE SUPERHERO! Join the marrow registry for free online at: www.dkmsamericas.org. The test to join is just a cheek swab. Register online, and receive the cheek swab testing kit in the mail. It's never been EASIER to join. If you're ever found to be a matching donor, you might truly help save a life. In 2010, I was a candidate in the Man & Woman of the Year Campaign, which was a friendly competition to see which man and woman could raise the most funds for the LLS in a 10-week time frame. I organized nine fundraising events, and decided to create the Deena's Friends for a Cure website to promote my events, tell my story, and raise awareness for the bone marrow registry. I am proud to have raised $8,476.51, which earned me second place in the contest.
In Spring of 2012, I decided to organize a series of FIVE FUNDRAISING EVENTS to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society via Team in Training. I was inspired by two friends, Doug Belkofer and Don Splitstone, who are both participating in Team in Training this year. Don has been an active participant for over a decade, but Doug is brand new to Team and Training, and is currently training for his first triathlon! We wish Doug and Don the best of luck with their training, their events, and achieving their fundraising goals for the LLS.
I will be donating the proceeds from my five fundraisers to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through my friends' Team in Training pages. I plan to split the funds 50/50 between my two friends' TNT campaign pages to help them reach their personal fundraising goals. If you are unable to attend any of my events, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to either Don Splitstone or Doug Belkofer. Details can be found on the Donation page. Thanks for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
